The PDGA Pro Worlds are arriving to Finland in 2025 and the organizers of the European Open are preparing to host the historical event as for the first time in disc golf history, the Pro Worlds will be held outside North America. Expanding the 2024 European Open to Tampere Disc Golf Center is a big part of these preparations. For the first time in the EO history, the original PDGA European major will be played on two courses. This is a great opportunity for players and fans alike to get acquainted with the upcoming Worlds courses.

“Our goal is to run the 2024 European Open as close as possible to the 2025 Worlds. This allows us to test both venues for what’s to come. This is a very special opportunity for us, players, and off course the fans. 2024 EO will give a glimpse what is expected to happen at the 2025 Worlds,” says event Director Jussi Meresmaa.

2024 European Open Format

European Open will be played on 18.-21.7.2024. The special team event, Presidents Cup, will be played on 17.7.2024, a day before the main event in Nokia.

The first two rounds of the European Open, taking place on Thursday and Friday, will be played at the Tampere Disc Golf Center. For those who are foreign to this venue, the Tampere Major layout is a par 67, 3 280 meters (~10,760 feet) long modern course that spreads over meadows with rolling hills, tight fairways in the woods, and tricky greens, all of which present a myriad of challenges for event the top pros. Shooting a par-round on this monster layout rewards the player with a hefty 1020 PDGA rating. A separate FPO layout has been designed and will be finished for the 2024 event.

Tampere Disc Golf Center was established in 2017 to cater the ever-growing need for quality disc golf courses in the Tampere area. The original idea was to make a world-class facility to serve players from beginners to pro. City of Tampere has dedicated a lot of resources to this venue over the years. The permanent course features a whopping 27 holes, but it’s trimmed to major layout called “The Monster” for the pro tournaments.

For the weekend rounds, the show returns to Nokia and the Beast. Home of the European Open since 2011, the Beast will challenge players both mentally and physically. The Beast offers par 63 and 2 794 meters (9,167 feet) course to navigate. The specialty of the Beast is that it’s capable to host the world-record crowds, expected to exceed 5 000 spectators on the final Sunday.

New Ticket Options

2024 edition will introduce new ticket options available for those who want to follow the best disc golfers in the world up close. Tampere Disc Golf Center will be paid-to-enter event for all spectators. Tampere venue has limited capacity spectator areas, and by limiting the ticket holders, the organizers can provide the best possible event experience for the spectators and the players. There will be limited amount of tickets available in two categories: general access and VIP access. With general access ticket you can enjoy world-class disc golf on more than half of the holes, and the VIP access gives you access to all holes. The wooded holes 8-15 are accessible to VIP ticket holders only.

In Nokia, along with the VIP passes introduced in the last few years, there will be new ticket level that gives fans to access to the “Arboretum” area, where holes 4-8 are located. This is a naturally more tightly contained part of the course that can’t accommodate the thousands strong crowds of the final rounds.

More info about the tickets will follow in April, when tickets are planned to become available.
