Course maps have been published – this is the biggest change

European Open starts in just two weeks. Both courses are being prepared to challenge the best players in the world.

The layout at the Beast will be almost the same as last year for MPO and FPO with minor tweaks here and there. Except hole 16, which sees its biggest change in the event’s history: this year there will be no buncr rule but normal OB-rules. Albeit with limited lie options still. The new iteration of the hole features two drop zones. Here is a quote from the Caddie Book of hole 16:

“For any throw from the tee that comes to rest in the OB, the player receives one penalty throw and must re-throw from the previous lie or continue from Drop Zone 1.

For any throw from the FAIRWAY or Drop Zone 1 that comes to rest in the OB, the player receives one penalty throw and must re-throw from the previous lie or continue from the Drop Zone 2.

Normal OB rules apply for any throw from the island or Drop Zone 2.”

European Open hole 16
The famous hole 16. Drop Zone 2 is about 15 m from the pin.

Tampere Disc Golf Center (The Monster) has seen a lot of preparation work during the spring. Recently set up FPO teepads are in place as well as tons of other preparations for the European Open 2024. The Major layout of the Monster will be an extreme challenge for the top pros with tight fairways and demanding shots.
