Monday was busy as 68 MPO players and 7 FPO players hunted for the remaining spots in the European Open during Monday’s qualifying competition.
In the MPO division, five spots were available, and in the FPO division, only one.
Notably, the participant list in the open division included several familiar names from the Disc Golf Pro Tour. Tristan Tanner and Luke Samson from USA, as well as Canadian star Thomas Gilbert had arrived to compete. Among the Finnish participants were Rasmus Saukkoriipi, Lauri Hämäläinen, and Oskari Vikström.
Ultimately, the five remaining tickets to the European Open were claimed by Lauri Hämäläinen, Iivari Raittinen, Sweden’s Max Regitnig, Thomas Gilbert, and Rasmus Saukkoriipi. Hämäläinen and Raittinen both scored -8. Saukkoriipi’s -5 was enough to secure the last spot in the European Open.
In the FPO division, the last spot went to Jenna Hirsimäki. Missing out were Americans Deann Carey and Olivia Kindstedt, as well as junior star Iida Lehtomäki.
The European Open begins on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Tampere Disc Golf Center. On Wednesday, the Presidents Cup will take place, where Team Europe will seek its first-ever victory against Team USA’s star lineup.
