The second round of MPO at the European Open took a nasty turn when thunderstorms arrived at the Tampere Disc Golf Center. The lightning interrupted the play three times until the PDGA and the organizers decided that the second round will be played on Saturday morning starting at 7.00 am.
Saturday’s second round will be played without spectators. Director of competition, Jussi Meresmaa, apologizes the situation. “It is simply impossible for us to have a major level competition in two venues at the same time – especially with 12 hours’ notice. Mother Nature has thrown down such a challenge, which we are unable to meet at this stage.”
The MPO’s second round will continue with a shotgun start without the public on Saturday at 7.00 am. The only group that did not have time to start at all was the lead card. They will therefore have a full two rounds on Saturday; one at the Tampere Disc Golf Center and the other at the Beast.
Saturday’s third round in Nokia will be played as normal for both the FPO and MPO with spectators
Those who bought a ticket on Friday are asked to wait patiently – they will be contacted separately later. Also Saturday’s spectator rounds at the Tampere Disc Golf Center will have to be cancelled.
Organiser apologises this.
